What's the difference between RGB and hex colours?

RGB and hex (short for hexadecimal) are just different ways of representing colours in digital design. RGB (short for red, green and blue) colours are mostly used with photo editing software, and hex colours are mainly used for web design.

This tool makes translating one to the other simple. Whether you want to convert RGB to hex or hex to RGB, just enter the values above and we'll convert them automatically.

How do RGB numbers work?

RGB numbers consist of three separate numbers, each of which represent the amount of red, green and blue a colour contains. Each number starts at 0 and goes up to 255.

For example, the colour white is made when all values for red, green and blue are at 255. By contrast, black is made when all values are 0.

Play with the RGB numbers above to see what colours you can generate.
